Aspex is delighted to announce the eight extraordinary artists that have been selected for Emergency 2020.
This ever-popular biennial exhibition is returning to the gallery for the ninth iteration of the show. The group show presents the work of emerging artists, selected from an international open call.
Over 300 artists applied for the opportunity, which for the first time did not include a charge for submission. This significant change was made possible by the support of Aspex Patrons and did not impact the popularity of the open call and the overwhelming number of applications.
The selection panel, with the unenviable task of choosing just eight from 300, were: Joanne Bushnell, Director of Aspex; Helen Cammock, Artist; Alessio Anotoniolli, Director Gasworks; Will Lunn, Director Copperfield Gallery.
The selected artists for EMERGENCY 2020 are Helen Anna Flanagan, Vera Hadzhiyska, Eugene Macki, Adriane Morard, Rhys Morgan, Rossella Nisio, Jim Roseveare and Jessica Wetherly.
One of the artists will be chosen for a major solo show at Aspex in 2021, the announcement of which will be made during the exhibition preview on Thursday 23rd April. They will also receive a fee of £1000 to support the development of new work.
