Tall Ships Youth Trust’s Virtual Global Campaign

SIR CHAY BLYTH PARTNERS WITH THE TALL SHIPS YOUTH TRUST TO LAUNCH VIRTUAL GLOBAL CHALLENGE CAMPAIGN

Sailing legend Sir Chay Blyth has partnered with Portsmouth based youth charity, the Tall Ships Youth Trust, to launch their ‘Virtual Global Voyage’ fundraising campaign to support disadvantaged and disabled young people from all over the UK.

The campaign is now live and aims to virtually send one of the Trust’s Challenger Yachts over 28,000 nautical miles around the world, retracing the route of the Global Challenge for which the yachts were originally built. The yacht will sail 1 virtual nautical mile for every £1 donation, which will go directly towards offering 96 disadvantaged and disabled young people life changing experiences at sea.

As it progresses along the virtual journey, Sir Chay Blyth will recount his personal experience from his days of running the Global Challenge.

According to the Children’s Commissioner for England, there are 3.7m young people living in poverty in the UK, and 800,000 young people who are not in employment, education or training (NEET). Society is becoming increasingly divided and impoverished, and the disadvantaged and disabled young people within it are becoming even more excluded. The Tall Ships Youth Trust is dedicated to empowering these young people to develop their life skills and reach their true potential through the crewing of ocean going sail training vessels.

Sir Chay Blyth says: “I am delighted to be working with the Tall Ships Youth Trust. Supporting young people in this way is something that is very close to my heart and I am thrilled that the Challengers are being put to good effect and doing something worthwhile to help youngsters.”

The Tall Ships Youth Trust is dedicated to helping young people realise their full potential through sail-training adventures. Sailing as part of the Tall Ships crew makes for a participative and empowering experience, providing a challenge in which young people can explore their true potential.

Tall Ships Youth Trust CEO, Richard Leaman-Grey, says: “Our ambition is to transform many more young people’s lives but we can’t do this without your support. With your help, we can raise the funds we urgently need to take 96 more disadvantaged and disabled youngsters to sea – please help us, to help them, now.’’
