SailGP Portsmouth 2026: Everything You Need to Know About the Emirates GB Sail Grand Prix

Few cities are as intrinsically linked to the sea as Portsmouth. With its rich maritime heritage and world-famous sailing history, it’s the perfect venue for SailGP Portsmouth 2026, as the Rolex SailGP Championship returns to the south coast for the Emirates Great Britain Sail Grand Prix.

If you’re unfamiliar with SailGP, think of it as Formula 1 on water. National teams compete in identical, state-of-the-art F50 catamarans capable of reaching speeds of more than 62mph (100km/h). Racing takes place just metres from the shoreline, creating an incredible spectacle for spectators on Portsmouth’s waterfront and millions watching around the world. Because every team races the same boat, success is determined by skill, teamwork and strategy rather than superior technology.

The Emirates Great Britain SailGP Team will be hoping home waters provide the perfect stage as they look to defend their 2025 SailGP Championship title. Led on the water by double Olympic gold medallist Dylan Fletcher, alongside strategist and two-time Olympic champion Hannah Mills and wing trimmer Stuart Bithell, the British team boasts one of the strongest line-ups in the championship. Off the water, they’re guided by CEO and Team Principal Sir Ben Ainslie, the most decorated Olympic sailor in history.

The Silverstone of SailGP, the Emirates Great Britain Sail Grand Prix, will once again transform Portsmouth’s waterfront into a spectacular sporting arena. Last year’s inaugural event attracted more than 20,000 fans across the weekend and sold out, with organisers expecting another capacity crowd this year.

Unfortunately, I missed last year’s event, so I’m determined not to make the same mistake twice. Watching the success of Portsmouth’s first SailGP weekend from afar only made me more eager to experience it in person. There are few better settings for elite sailing than the Solent and, as a Portsmouth local, this feels like one of the biggest sporting events the city hosts.

SailGP Portsmouth 2026 Tickets

If you’re planning to attend the Emirates Great Britain Sail Grand Prix, booking early is highly recommended. SailGP Portsmouth tickets are available for either a single day or the full weekend.

Fans can choose from:

  • Waterfront Grandstand
  • Premium Waterfront Grandstand (weekend tickets unavailable)
  • VELA Beach Club

VELA Beach Club Debuts in Portsmouth

Making its UK debut, the VELA Beach Club is a brand-new hospitality experience combining premium race views with world-class food and drink, live entertainment and a relaxed social atmosphere. Designed as SailGP’s premium lifestyle experience, it’s set to become one of the hottest tickets of the summer.

Premium Waterfront Grandstand

New for SailGP Portsmouth 2026, the Premium Waterfront Grandstand combines the atmosphere of the traditional grandstand with enhanced comfort, food and drink included in the ticket price, and an upgraded race-day experience for fans wanting the best possible views.

Live Music After the Racing

The entertainment doesn’t stop when the racing finishes.

Saturday 25 July sees chart-topping singer Jess Glynne take to the stage, while Sunday 26 July features Craig David presents TS5, bringing the SailGP weekend to a close in style.

Having been fortunate enough to see both artists perform previously at Strong Island, I can safely say they’re the perfect way to round off an unforgettable weekend of world-class sailing.

Whether you’re a lifelong sailing fan or simply looking for one of the biggest sporting events taking place in Portsmouth this summer, SailGP Portsmouth 2026 promises a weekend unlike any other.
