Angela Chick Illustration – Palentines Day

NOT VALENTINE’S BUT PALENTINE’S. RECOGNISE THOSE CLOSEST TO YOU THIS FEB 14th

The Southsea based illustrator Angela Chick has been featured on Strong Island many times before. Visitors to our store on Highland Road or local markets will recognise her distinctive range of unique gifts and accessories in her playful style of illustration. Angela is determined to make sure that we don’t forget the other special people in our lives and this is why she is also making sure we recognise them on Palentine’s Day February 14th.

Angela describes “I’ve created a business that is basically based on friendship and making other people feel good. I make cards for as many occasions as I can and even sometimes make them up – my best seller being my Palentine’s Day cards which I decided to do because I’ve never done anything “romantic” on Valentine’s Day and after being a lone wolf for a long time decided to make that time of year (which, let’s be honest can be kinda crap if you’re single) about platonic love rather than romantic love.”

This is WAY more exciting than Valentine’s because it’s a time to celebrate your pals – and all good pals deserve celebrating!

For the lovers out there you can also get your hands on special Valentine’s cards. Both P and V day cards are available on her website and in the Strong Island store, priced at £2.50 each.

While we are talking all things Angela, she has just finished a collaboration with Compass Candles. Angela explains “I want to make gifts that you want to give to your friends – things that can compliment the cards or just as an extra added touch. In 2016 I decided I needed to be more friendly to myself and that’s when I started having a Sunday bath as a treat – candles lit, favourite book, bath bomb and oils. Enter Compass Candles. I met Sam from Compass Candles at the end of 2016 and from when I very first saw there was someone making hand poured natural candles in Southsea of all places I had to get in touch about collaborating. These candles didn’t upset my sensitive little nose and they could not have been more local! I knew I wanted two options – I didn’t want them to be like every other candle and be named completely on their smell – so I decided to call them Sunshine and Sugar Sweet.”

The candles are made of natural soy wax and hand poured in Southsea, UK, into premium glass jars and have a stainless steel lid to help keep the dust out. The labels are clear which allows you to watch the flame through them as they burn down. Each candle has a wooden wick and is 225g which gives you approximately 50 hours of burning time. They’re available to buy at www.angelachick.com/shop for £21 plus postage.

Sugar Sweet – Creme Brulee

Hello Sunshine – Lime and Coconut
