Surfers Against Sewage Autumn Beach Clean 2016 on Southsea Beach

Last year’s Surfers Against Sewage Autumn Beach Clean Series saw over 3,500 volunteers remove over 10 tonnes from 160 beaches, they are once again calling for volunteers to take part during the week of the 24th to the 30th of October. The local beach clean event on Southsea Beach happens on Sunday 30th October from 2pm – 4pm. The aim of this event is to spread awareness of the marine litter crisis throughout the community; getting together to tend to the beautiful beach, supporting each other in becoming more conscious of the impact on the ocean and how people can help reduce it. Be part of the biggest autumn beach clean-up ever!

The beach clean team will be meeting at the Pyramids Centre (the sea facing side) at 2pm and the plan is to meet back at South Parade Pier at 4pm. Alternatively when you’ve had enough just leave your full bags there (bags tied and secure) for Colas to pick-up. Bin liners and gloves will be provided, although gloves are limited so please feel free to bring your own gardening/work gloves along if you have some. Colas are supplying some litter pickers, these will be given out out a first come first served/most needed basis.

Check out the SAS website HERE for more information about Surfers Against Sewage and the global marine litter crisis and also check the local Facebook event too.
