Local Photography Exhibition in Cascades with Tom Goss & LCE

Currently Portsmouth as a city has a thriving photography community, with many, many creative & active photographers and groups of photographers out and about and sharing their work online. Despite the incredible images being created and the avid audience on social media, in particular Instagram, right now we don’t have a venue that works well as a photography exhibition space. So…it was awesome to find out from local photographer Tom Goss (who is Events Manager of London Camera Exchange Portsmouth and photo walk & workshop leader) about his hard work in setting up a pop-up exhibition and workshop space in an empty shop in Cascades in Portsmouth’s Commercial Road.

With it being difficult times on the high street at the moment Tom Goss decided to utilise the resources of an empty unit at Cascades and decided to kick things off by organising a large group exhibition for the local photographic community, focusing on customers and Instagrammers within Portsmouth and surrounding areas. This exhibition will be held in the new space (where Super Cuts used to be) in Kingswell Path, which is the entrance to Cascades that can be found next to the fountain in Commercial Road. The exhibition will be open to the public every weekend in December on the lead up to Christmas, from the 1st December until the 23rd December from 10am – 4pm. As well as checking out the photography attendees also have the opportunity for a chance to win a £199 Vanguard carbon fibre tripod.

This is a non-profit event, using the support of local companies such as the Canvas Company, who kindly offered to print the photographers work at a huge discount as well as Cascades who allowed us the space. Exhibitors get to take advantage of printing their work on a large scale 20” x 30” canvas at a heavily discounted price, showcase their work and sell with no commission fees.

Photographers in the exhibition include:

Sarah Marston, Howard Hurd, Sue Woodbridge, Richard Malec, Jo Bryant, Louis Goldman, Matthew Nobles, Vladislav Marinov, Shaun Eaton, Jamie Howle, Ryan Hyde, Christopher Donaldson, Five Architects, Max Williams, Louis Stacey,Christine Matchett, Tim Gordon, Christopher Donaldson, Nick Beer and Tom Goss.

As well as being an exhibition space it will also be used for talks and workshops.  On the 13th December Steven Marsh, a professional photographer and Sony sales manager, will be getting you to grips with portrait and low light photography. This is a bookable event. Every weekend they will also have a video workshop from Familiar Stranger Films, a talk by Chris Brunnen (author of Portsmouth an aerial tour through time) about commercial photography and Andy Hornby will also present a workshop on 23rd December.
