Portsmouth youth volunteering service Community Fusion has teamed up with national charity Healthy Planet and Cascades Shopping Centre to open a ‘new age’ charity shop. They will be holding an official launch this Thursday from 4:00pm-5:30pm.
The shop is like no other charity shop I’ve seen before, the vast majority of the shop was put together using recycled materials for the shop fixtures. A lot of this was due to the hard work by Hartts, a local carpenter who has provided his time and materials as a donation to the cause. All fittings were upcycled from scrap wood and redundant pallets from other Cascades shops.
Items available in the shop are donated from a wide variety of sources including locals such as Stu Linfield, Pie & Vinyl, Polly n Ogg, Untold Story and Sweet Cheeks. Many items have also been crafted by volunteers within the shop it’s self.
The shop launch is open to all, you’ll be able to meet the team, see the art and crafts available to buy, discover the Books For Free scheme and to learn more about volunteering yourself. There will also be an awesome 10% off flash sale during this event!
Everything sold will raise money to support the local youth volunteer services which aims to inspire and encourage young adults to make positive changes in their lives through volunteering in projects based in their own community.
The shop is located at Unit 39 at Cascades Shopping Centre and is open 0900-1730 Monday-Friday and 1030-1630 on Sundays.
Volunteers are needed to help run the shop, creative workshops and the reading club. If you are interested in giving up some of your free time then please get in touch by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Donations of children’s books are also required for the Reading Club. If you can help then please also get in contact with Jenna on email@example.com, by Twitter @CommunityFusion or via the shops own Facebook Page HERE.
