New Strong Island Clothing Co Opens on Marmion Road in Southsea

THE NEW STORE OPENS WITH THE NEW SUMMER COLLECTION

Saturday the 6th of May saw the opening of the brand new Strong Island Clothing Co store at 87 Marmion Road in Southsea and the next step in the journey of our clothing brand. With only a month from first receiving the keys to the new store, through a busy re-fit (with huge thanks to Ben Rowe, Chilli Mike, Harleywood, our patron Southsea saint Graham and all the Strong Island crew), the move from Highland Road and then down to the last minute finishing touches we opened at 10am, with a queue outside aiming to grab one of our free exclusive launch tote bags filled with Strong Island mugs, socks, books and much more. The day was a blur of friends old and new dropping buy and people checking the huge new summer collection, of which we’re really proud to finally share.

Small Beginnings…

We originally started out making tees a little before the Strong Island second birthday party (also our first charity raffle) back in 2010. We had recently rebranded the Strong Island website and had lots of requests for the then new anchor logo on a tee. The day of the party we had our first delivery of tees and were blown away with the response, selling loads on the night. About every 3 months or so we then ran a new colourway (still to this day we rarely re-run colourways once they are sold out) and things grew and grew. By 2012 we wanted to make this a proper clothing brand, with a collection of tees, hats, keyrings and more all launched with a party at Little Johnny Russells and then with a stall at Victorious Vintage festival.

Fast forward two years of growing through our online store, we decided we wanted to open an actual shop in Southsea, by November of 2014 our Highland Road store opened. As a company Strong Island Clothing Co has grown so much in the almost 3 years we have been at our old store, we’ve gone from a handful of designs and only open 3 days a week with us taking turns manning the store, to a large clothing range, girls clothes, prints, and so much more…plus we now have a team of 5 working with us too, crew deep.

We’re now really excited to be moving to our new home on Marmion Road at the heart of Southsea. We looking forward to getting more involved with the many independent stores & cafes that are our new neighbours and really excited to be sharing our huge new summer range.

By far our biggest drop yet, the new summer collection includes over 30 new men’s designs and colourways, new shirt, hats, bags, crews plus the new Women’s collection including 5 new designs and colourways plus crews. As always, our tees and crews are hand screenprinted in East London plus we’ve also included in the collection something pretty special: colour fade designs. Each one is totally unique, with each pull mixing the colours different every time. We also have embroidered items too, such as the new long sleeve striped tees and our new shirt.
