Pie & Vinyl are hosting the annual Record Store Day celebrations on Castle Road on Saturday 21st April for the fourth year running. As always, it’s a free event featuring live music, a friendly atmosphere, and a variety of local street traders selling delicious and high-quality food and drink.
For those dedicated enough to queue all night, Pie & Vinyl will be opening the doors at 8 am for you to purchase some specially released one-off pressing records. For the rest of us, the music and festivities will start at midday. With a line-up that includes Cabbage, Haley, Melt Dunes and a surprise mystery guest, it’s a musical celebration not too be missed.
There will also be live artwork on the day from the talented artists at Play Dead Street Art Collective with My Dog Sighs.
The act I’ll be most looking forward to is Portsmouth local and indie-pop artist, Jerry Williams. Having recently caught her acoustic set at the Edge of the Wedge, I am very excited to witness her perform with the rest of her band. Jerry has recently been selected as one of Ticketmaster’s ‘Ones to Watch’ and that, complete with her excellent rainbow jumper collection, leaves you with no real excuse not to go and see her too!
If you’re new to Record Store Day, Pie & Vinyl have produced a handy list of ‘positive gestures’ to help ensure everyone has a really good time. They’ve also provided us with access to the Official UK Release List so you can have a sneak peek at what’s on offer before you pack your sleeping bag for a night of queueing.
For more information follow the Record Store Day Facebook Event and keep an eye on the Pie & Vinyl website.
