Preview: The Fitness Festival 2018

Tomorrow the Fitness Festival returns to Castle Field and it looks like it is going the be the biggest yet! Now in its fourth year, SWEAT Southsea founders and festival founders Luke and Tina Newton set out to create an event that would inspire and celebrate active and healthy lifestyles. The event is free to attend and aims to celebrate and inspire active and healthy lifestyles. You can pop down and take part in free classes or you can learn more about local and national organisations, teams, charities, and businesses.

Throughout the day there will be fun challenges and prizes to be won, music and dance, demos and showcases as well as a variety of workouts to get involved in. These activities are open to everyone of all abilities and is a perfect way to try something new. You can get involved by just turning up on the day. You can see the event’s timetable below but I have also picked out a few of my festival highlights of the day. This wasn’t easy as there is just so much going on, there really is something for everyone.

Calum Best used to be known exclusively as the son of George Best but nowadays he is an established household name in his own right, as well as being a  successful entrepreneur. Calum launched the Best Me Life Journals to help bridge the gap between a daily planner, a notebook, a gratitude journal and a goal planner. Calum used the Best Me Life daily formula to help focus himself over the past six years, knowing that drastic change was needed following years of imbalance and ‘going with the flow.’ Part of this change was a journal through which he could set and track his goals on a daily basis.

Callum describes “I’ve always studied entrepreneurs, and, for obvious reason, have been fascinated by those who have turned themselves around from a place of near giving up, to a place of crushing it. Every person who has gone from a place of being rock bottom, to absolutely killing it, all have one thing in common. Repetitive, consistent and disciplined action every day with a positive frame of mind. It’s so simple but most people fall off the goal getting wagon soon after they start. The Best Me journal will keep you on.”

Calum will be at the Fitness Festival to speak to visitors and discuss the product and the new Best Me Life Fit. The personal fitness journal enhancing the transformation of your body, mind and spirit, 90 days at a time. Helping you create healthy habits, inform the right choices and encourage consistent action in and out of the gym.

Paralympic silver medalist Lauren Steadman invites (challenges) you to take part in a family-friendly GoTri activity will involve a 300m run, then jumping on your bike to complete an 800m ride. The tricky bit is always the final run and your wobbly legs will be tested as you complete the final 300m run to the finish. Everyone will get their own time and a certificate to take home.

There is no need to bring any equipment with you, as the team from the Triathlon Trust will bring their amazing Cuda Performance bikes and helmets, and if you can’t ride…don’t panic, coz they will have some off-road scooters with them too. Registration will be on the day at the Triathlon Trust tents.

There will be a special Q&A with Team GB Skeleton athlete Kimberley Murray. Originally from the Isle of Wight, Kimberley is working hard to realise her dream of winning a gold medal at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. Prior to trying Skeleton, Kimberley competed nationally and internationally in the long jump. The switch in sports sees Kimberley now slide on a sled down an icy track head-first reaching speeds of over 70 miles per hour!

Hunter Gatherer Coffee Cup

I personally exercise just so I can justify devouring a cheeseburger. I am not aware of any burger vans being at the festival but within the food market but there will be a wide range of healthy food and drink traders. All traders share the Fitness Festival’s ethos of promoting balanced diets and loving healthy food.

You will find Frog Hollow, who specialises in super snacks, bringing you energy bites, raw cacao truffles and superfood cakes and local coffee favourite Hunter Gatherer should need no introduction.

For more information about everything that you can expect to find, please visit the festival’s website and social media.
