Upcoming: Richard Hawley at Portsmouth Guildhall

Singer-songwriter Richard Hawley is set to grace Portsmouth Guildhall next week –  Tuesday, 18th June – in support of his recently released ninth studio album ‘In This City They Call You Love. The first single from the album, ‘Two For His Heels’, has already made waves on BBC Radio 6 Music over the last few weeks, securing an A-list spot on the station’s playlist and reminding us of his status as one of the finest songwriters of his generation.

The new record, including new single ‘Prism In Jeans,’ captures Hawley’s signature vintage style, blending nostalgia with his deep-rooted passion for the pre-Beatles era of transatlantic rock and roll. Evoking memories of The Tornadoes and The Shadows, it showcases Hawley’s talent for crafting emotive ballads with lush melodies and poignant arrangements.

Reflecting on his creative process, the former Longpigs and Pulp member reveals, “I’ve made three albums where I had the title before I’d even begun to record. For this one, I wanted it to be multi-coloured, focusing on the voice and what voices can do together.” This approach is evident in the album’s rich vocal harmonies and restrained use of guitar solos, emphasizing the power of song and space.

Expect a lot of love in the room for Richard Hawley next week with a performance that promises to be an unforgettable celebration of his storied career and the timeless appeal of his new record.

Support comes from Temples frontman James Bagshaw whilst remaining tickets are available here: https://www.portsmouthguildhall.org.uk/whats-on/event/richard-hawley/
