Pigeon Books Recommendations: February 2022

Hello again! It’s a new year – and although it seems really quiet after the fantastic Christmas we’ve just had (being part of the Small Biz Santa promotion and being able to open this year right up until Christmas Eve being two highlights for us) it’s still steady going and we’re starting to put plans into motion for all sorts of fun things we can do once the restrictions continue to hopefully relax.

The year is still young but there has already been a handful of surprise top sellers for us – the paperback release of ‘Detransition, Baby’ by Torrey Peters and ‘To Paradise’, the follow-up to ‘A Little Life’ by Hanya Yanagihara have both been January hits so far.

Stolen Focus’ by Johann Hari has also been a popular one recently, if you’re more of a non-fiction reader – centred around our ever-decreasing attention spans, and what we can do to get our focus back.

February is LGBTQ+ History Month – we’ve always got a great selection of books for all tastes and ages as usual, and we’ll be keeping a rotating window display of great titles all month.

We’re planning on having good friend, artist and Trans activist Samo in for a book signing and drop-in session at some point this month – keep an eye on our respective social media pages for updates. Samo’s book ‘I Exist’ was created as a companion to his art show at Coastguard Studio, and is a stunning coffee table art book, in stock now if you’re keen!

We’ll also be continuing our partnership with the Literacy Hubs (we still have some of our limited edition candles for sale, a donation from each sale going to the Pompey Pirates) and helping them with the setup of their second location.

I’d like to remind anyone who doesn’t know that although we only keep a relatively small selection of books on the shelves in the shop, it’s usually no hassle to order anything that we don’t have in for you – and most books can be with us in a day or two, ready for collection or delivery!
