Being approached to contribute to Strong Island was one of the best things that has ever happened to me. It’s opened doors to some amazing experiences, including being one of about fifty people watching Missy Elliott’s full rehearsal before she headlined at Bestival. As well as allowed me to meet so many amazing people, many of whom I now considered friends.
This last year hasn’t been easy for any of us. Tristan has done an amazing job making sure that Strong Island Clothing Co continues to thrive in what is an incredibly challenging time for retail. While Paul has continued to run Strong Island Media, getting involved in exciting projects such as My Dog Sighs massive new project, ‘Inside’.
The website has obviously been quieter than we’d have liked over the last year and a half but with the world beginning to re-open its doors we hope to get back to producing regular written and podcast content.
We’re looking to collaborate with contributors who possess the same values and passion for sharing stories that highlight the amazing creatives and independent businesses based on the south coast. We have no age cap on this and welcome young aspiring writers.
We especially want to feature new businesses, interview creatives, review bars, cafes and restaurants, write up and photograph live music, exhibitions and much more!
Apart from a small handful of sponsored features we’ve never sought to monetise the website so we cannot pay contributors and any work would be voluntary.
We’re looking to collaborate with contributors who possess the same values and passion for sharing stories that highlight the amazing creatives and independent businesses based on the south coast.
However, through the friends that we’ve made over the years we are able to offer rewarding opportunities that are not available to all, including;
– Press access to music festivals
– Press and photography opportunities at gigs and the theatre
– Interview opportunities with musicians, artists and sporting personalities
– Invitations to taste and review some amazing food and drink
– Have an interest in talking about fitness, sport and wellbeing
This is an ideal opportunity for any aspiring writers, bloggers or podcasters. Or anyone looking to find their way into a media role in the future. Passion and enthusiasm is just as important if not more so than experience. Ongoing support and WordPress training will be available.
We are quite open-minded as to what contributors might want to write about. One thing we’d love to bring back our Set Sail travel features.
