£7.50 TICKETS TO RYDE
It’s a funny time of year. Once the fireworks have gone bang, we’re coasting towards Christmas, hibernating indoors and worrying about how much money we don’t have to spend on gifts we know they probably won’t like.
Instead of entering cocoon mode, you can head over to the Isle of Wight for the evening this autumn for just pennies. In a bid to encourage locals on the south coast to visit the Island by night, Wightlink are offering evening returns for just £7.50 each on their FastCat.
A change is as good as a rest. And when that change includes walks along long sandy beaches at dusk, great places to eat and a trip overseas, I’m all for it. Even though it’s only 22 minutes away, that ferry ride makes it feel a little bit like a holiday, right?
If you’re on a budget you can simply explore miles of stunning coastal paths and stop for a hot chocolate by a pub fireplace – take the dog, if you like (it’s free).
Trad pubs, gin parlours and wine bars line the streets of Ryde itself, if you fancy a drink drink. For foodies, there’s plenty of choice in Ryde or there’s a great deal to be had at contemporary British restaurant Thompson’s in Newport. Two can dine on their seasonal set menu for just £88 – they’ll even throw in a return taxi from the ferry terminal.
