Panic of the Human Fancy by Joanne Hummel-Newell at aspex guildhall Opens Tonight

This evening sees the opening of a brand new exhibition at aspex guildhall entitled ‘Panic of the Human Fancy’ by Isle of Wight artist Joanne Hummel-Newell. Painting, drawing and collage are some of the media used by Joanne Hummel-Newell to create her works, which are governed by chance, accident and honesty. aspex guildhall will be hosting this solo show including a selection of Joanne’s new and recent works.

“My work embarks on a multi disciplined approach, from large scale painting and collage, to installation and moving image. Currently, through the construction of collaged wooden cut outs, drawing and painting, the work documents our human motivation to achieve a sense of control and order, through design, and the tensions which exist when this is brought into the realms of accident and chance.” – Joanne

The exhibition follows two well-received shows from illustrator Jonny Hannah and photographer Andrew Paul Hayward. Curator at aspex, Clive Caswell, says “All the artists shown in the space so far come from within a 20 mile radius of Portsmouth Guildhall, which just goes to show the depth of artistic talent in the local area”.

The preview for the exhibition is today at 6pm, all are welcome to attend. The exhibition then runs until 14th December.
