Enjoying Local Food – Viviers Fish Market

Each time I’m on the treader taking a casual ride in the sun, I often find myself gravitating down to my favourite place in all of Portsmouth; The Camber. As far as I know its pretty much the only place in Southsea where commercial fishing still takes place, with boats coming in and out with fresh catch, either to be sent to the continent or for local businesses. At the heart of this is Viviers Fish Market. One of two fish markets in the area, Viviers offer a daily selection of fresh fish and shellfish at very competitive prices. They also seem to stock a fair few restaurants round here; scribbled on the lobster tank was simply “For Relentless”, not a bad sign. This “from market to plate” notion definitively appeals to me. It does however feels like these establishments need to be made more of and celebrated. Portsmouth and Southsea’s fishing scene goes slightly unnoticed. So I am urging all Strong Islanders to take a trip down there, buy something amazing to cook for your friends and support your local fish markets!
