Southsea Boutique Market – A Review

We mentioned the Southsea Boutique Market a little while back before it happened and one of the organisers Abigail Mansell got in contact with a review of the event written by Preslava McCarthy, a Portsmouth Uni journalism student:

“On 5th March, St. Swithun’s Church Hall, on Waverley Road, hosted The Southsea Boutique Market event. It was a great opportunity for individuals and business to sell and promote their stock, and at the same time great opportunity for shoppers to pick up fine bargain deals for their summer wardrobes. Abigail Mansell, 35, organiser of the event, said “The aim of the Southsea Boutique Market is to give the community a place to sell that is family friendly, and for business who do not have their own shops or premises a chance to showcase themselves.”

The Market had a vintage-market-carboot-feel, but without the cold weather, early morning start and strong smell of sausages. In fact the smell in the church hall was overwhelmed by the lovely smell of homemade cakes, made by the vintage cafe area of The Tea Party. Little girls had their nails done by Princess Pamper Parties, makeover specialists for children’s parties, for the small price of just £2. There were also children’s toys available from Playful Child and beautiful handmade crochet toys and clothes by Anne Claire Petit. Others taking part were, On the Rocks – trendy vintage boutique, based on Albert Road, providing a range of wonderful vintage and pre-loved clothing. Butterfly Beauty – new to the block beauty salon also based on Albert Road, promoted their organic range of cosmetics. There was also a variety of gorgeous handmade jewellery made from old vintage items, from Blanche & Lola. Their Tea Cup ring was so popular that it sold out completely by the end of the event.

As an organiser of the event Mrs Mansell said she was very pleased with the outcome “I can’t believe the support we had by the amount of people taking part in the Market.” She added, “I literary opened the doors this morning and there were people queuing up.” The fact that the area of Albert Road is so quirky, with lots of different individuals and creative people is what inspired Mrs Mansell to host the vintage market in Southsea. Mrs Mansell is a mum of 3, a Southsea blogger, novelist and owner of an online boutique –Rare Designer Must Haves, which is targeted at children”.

The next Southsea Boutique Market will be on 30th April 2011, from 12.30 – 4pm. Entry is free. If you would like to sell or promote your own items simply e-mail Abi.
