Festive Creative Market This Saturday at The Round Tower & Hotwalls Studios

This Saturday (3rd December) sees The Round Tower and The Hotwalls Studios hosting the first Festive Creative Market, bringing together lots of Portsmouth’s artists, designers and makers together. From 10am to 4pm the market will include stalls with Aspex, Art Space, Making Space, The Clay Station, Omega Printmakers, Anglepoise® , BA Illustration students at The University of Portsmouth, Barbara Tipple, The Canteen, The Bureau of Change, Neal Layton, Kevin Dean, Strong Island & Southsea  Lifestyle Magazine. The Hotwalls Studios will also be open too and running workshops plus the ETSY Made Local event at the Square tower is also on the same weekend too.

“One of our aims at Hotwalls Studios is to build relationships and showcase creative organisations, artists, makers, students and their networks. This event enables us to open up The Round Tower & Hotwalls Studios and celebrate the high quality of creative talent we have in the city and start to forge these links and offer the public a place to visit and buy or commission work. The Festive Creative Market is a celebration of artists & designer-makers carefully curated by Portsmouth’s creative organisations. A wide range of work will be for sale including prints, paintings, fabrics & textiles, illustrations, ceramics, books & jewellery.” – Claire Sambrook

For the Festive Creative Market seventeen 3rd year BA Illustration students from the University of Portsmouth have created prints and cards for the market and all work sold will go towards their London exhibitions next year. Eight 3rd year BA Illustration students have also been working with Anglepoise UK on festive prints inspired by their Type 75 lamp, this work will also be for sale at the Festive Creative Market.

“The Festive Creative Market at Hotwalls Studios, a creative hub for the brightest and best artists and designer-makers in the region, offers an exciting opportunity for us to celebrate and showcase the broad range of home-grown talent. We’ve worked with students from the Illustration Department at the University of Portsmouth to create a series of Anglepoise inspired Christmas cards; also with local artists Roo and Barry Abrook who’ve integrated our lamps and the sights of Portsmouth into their signature playful prints. Both cards and prints will be available for sale and all proceeds will be donated to the artists involved. We’ll also be offering for sale our new Studio Collection of desk lamps that are used in the artists’ studios at Hotwalls – each artist picked their favourite colour combination. Above all it’s a great time to celebrate at this festive time of year, so do come and join us.” – Simon Terry, Director, Anglepoise.
