The Fine Art exhibition at the University of Portsmouth CCi Graduate Show had, as you might expect, a wide variety of conceptual work ranging from clay textured sculptures, bottled body parts, video installations and more. The sculptural pieces in the show caught the eye initially, in particular the tactile work of Oliver Flint, with the sense of some organic or crystalline form through a high powered microscope.
In a corner of the exhibition was a wall covered with tiny apple icons, each one representing a victim of abuse. The work had a warning about the visual effect of the artwork effecting the eye/brain and it did make uncomfortable viewing on a couple of levels. Also hard to miss were the glass jars of animal body parts entitled ‘Soul’ by Jade Kay Cyster. Unsettling but intriguing. Also taking up a corner were a selection of works by Charlotte Rea, mixing patterns and shapes formed by nature.
