Portsmouth’s very own ‘drive-in’ movie screenings continue into the August bank holiday weekend and through September with a selection of films that will be perfect on the big screen. Taking place on the rooftop of the Cascades shopping centre and run by Portsmouth Film Society, this summer’s programme has already shown a range of titles – from The Matrix to Superman 2 – perfect for couples and groups to turn up and enjoy a film in this unique setting.
The next few weeks have a mixture of Hollywood crowd pleasers and world cinema. My first recommendation would be David Fincher’s 1999 classic ‘Fight Club’. Including what is perhaps Brad Pitt’s finest performance – as anti-hero Tyler Durden – the film’s anti-corporation/anti-capitalist agenda made it a seminal end of the century movie. If you’ve never seen it before then my advice is to go into it cold – don’t read the spoilers and you’ll be in for a treat! Moving into September, I’d also recommend ‘Parasite’, Bong Joon Ho’s 2020 Oscar winner for best film. It’s a taught, highly imaginative thriller which will stick in your mind long after the credits roll.
Tickets are £20 per car (maximum 4 people per car) whilst NHS staff qualify for a 50% discount!

Fight Club – Saturday 5th September
