Our friend Samo at Play Dead needs no introduction, but here goes: exceptional tattoo-ist to gallery owner to community activist to all round awesome human being. Samo has been going through transition for some time and now with a surgery date on the horizon the arts and LGBTQ+ communities Samo has shown such love and support for are coming together to return that love and support with the aim to help raise the funding for this important step in Samo’s journey.
Throughout May there will be a series of fundraising events that people can experience, see, hear and participate in:
May 11th, The Wedgewood Rooms – TRANS Mission with Tonic Music for Mental Health
Tonic Music for Mental Health are hosting a fundraising gig for Samo who needs funds to pay for vital surgery. The night will see El Morgan & The Divers plus Angela Morgan live on stage and then followed by Queer Disco. There will also be a raffle with prizes from a host of local companies and brands. It kicks off from 8pm and tickets are £10 available from Wedgewood Rooms (online HERE), Play Dead & Tonic (both located on Highland Road). Find out more at the Facebook Event.
May 26th, Play Dead – Trans-mission Exhibition
Playdead welcomes everyone to Trans-mission a huge arts collaboration and fundraiser for Samo. Over 20 amazing street artists and fine artist have each created a unique piece of work that celebrates the LGBTQ+ community especially for this show. You can see the artists involved on the poster artwork below. All artwork will be available and will go toward funding the surgery. The exhibition will run through to the 30th of June and you can keep track of developments at the Facebook Event.
