Nicholas Forbes has been doing an awesome job of running +Art for a few years now. Nicholas uses the wall space within the local businesses to showcase artists and giving them exposure to the businesses customers.
Nicholas is sadly leaving our fair city and now the +Art scheme are looking for one or more curators to take over running all or one of the venues involved, which are Garbos Hair Salon, Southsea Orthodontist and the Library Barbers.
The role involves creating a schedule of artwork (local, emerging, student, international, etc.) and promoting the work whilst it is being exhibited. All venues have a wall/walls with a hanging system installed so there in no drilling, refilling holes, painting etc. This does restrict the work to 2D work (paintings, framed) but the system is quick, easy and cheap to run.
Key skills needed for the role are
Organisation – often having to work round, personal life, other jobs, business schedules in order to create a schedule of artwork.
Communication – required to be able to interact with people from different backgrounds (artist, business owners, media).
Innovation – sometimes things don’t go as planned so the ability to think on your feet and solve arising problems is key. For example, artwork doesn’t turn up.
Networking – online and offline. The role requires you to have already good links within the local art community or the know how to find artists willing to exhibit work and utilisation of social media.
This would be a great opportunity, if you would to know more about +Art then check out their Facebook page HERE, or get in contact with Nicholas via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you know someone who may be interested in this opportunity then please share this article.
