At the start of Portsmouth FC’s first season as a fan owned club Strong Island began working with fan group Pompeys 12th Man and the management of the football club as a partnership aiming to brighten up parts of Fratton Park by bringing in local artists to create artwork for the ground. The first phase of the project saw designers from Portsmouth design studio ilovedust create three large murals, two in the Fratton End and one in the North Stand. All the designers involved are life long Pompey fans and the club historian provided archive and vintage photography from the club’s history to be included in the mural designs. The murals were installed in time for the first competitive game of the season.

The second phase of the project is ‘We Are Pompey’, a photography mural to be comprised of photos taken by the fans documenting the club’s first fan owned season also began last year. Photos on Twitter and Instagram are submitted by fans on game days by simply using the #WeArePompey hashtag and at the end of the season will form a new mural for the ground.
