Anglepoise®, The University of Portsmouth and Strong Island Present The Creating Balance Exhibition

Over the last 12 months we have been working on our 2013 exhibition project, Creating Balance, in partnership with Anglepoise® and the University of Portsmouth, with the aim to both celebrate a design classic and local creativity within Portsmouth. The project was devised to showcase the working studios and disciplines of artists and designers across the island and connect them to local photographers to capture, document and collaborate.

Anglepoise® lamps were given to each of the 10 participating artists/designers and the 10 photographers involved have used the lamps to light the photographs, give a sense of place and document the artist, where they work & how they create. Some lamps have also developed in to their own works of art too in many different ways. During the collaboration sessions University of Portsmouth BSc TV and Broadcast graduates Massimo Marzullo and Jonas Jakunas have been documenting the project, producing short films for each collaboration.

With the project now nearing completion we are really happy to announce the full details for the first exhibition of Creating Balance! The Creating Balance Exhibition – London will see exclusive photography and artwork by all of the collaborations, the modified and customised lamps, the full set of partnership films projected and many more aspects of the project all exhibited at Speakeasy Expresso and Brew Bar located at 3 Lowndes Court, just off of London’s famous Carnaby Street.

The exhibition is part of the London Design Festival and we are very happy to announce that it has also been selected to be part of the Icon Magazine‘s highly influential Icon Design Trail, a highly regarded and independent list of the must see sights of the festival.

The exhibition opens with a preview night on Thursday 12th September, which is free entry and there will be free postcards, project booklets, food and drink. The exhibition will then run until the 22nd, open at the following times: Open Monday – Friday: 07.30 – 19.00, Saturday: 10.00 – 20.00, Sunday: 10.00 – 18.00. On the preview night we are also partnering up with some Portsmouth brands to make the night a bit special too, more on that nearer the time.

As well as the exhibition the project has also been selected as part of a series of talks at the Victoria & Albert Museum. Drop in to the Victoria & Albert Museum on Thursday 19th September and hear the story behind The Creating Balance Project at Seminar Room 1, 1.30-3.00pm. Admission is also free. We’ll have more details on the project talk soon.
