PORTSMOUTH & SOUTHSEA'S No.1 for ARTS, CULTURE & LIFESTYLE

The Garden at Art Space

Since 2008 a small piece of land to the side of the Art Space Portsmouth studio building has slowly been turned into a little oasis in the heart of the city.

Art Space Portsmouth artists Jane Kilford and Adrian Mundy have coordinated this transformation, and with help from the local community and fellow ASP artists, have turned an area of unused tarmac into an award winning, thriving garden. Without
any ground to grow in, planters have been made from decking panels and recycled builders’ bags as well as other reclaimed materials, whilst local gardeners have donated most of the plants.

Over the last 4 years the garden has been used for a number of community events including free planting sessions for local residents. This year we have expanded our scope by helping residents in Brougham Road, where the studios are based, to plant pots for their entry in Portsmouth in Bloom and helping Somerstown Adventure Playground create a new garden.

On Sunday 29th July, between 1-4pm, the Garden will be open to the public to look around, be inspired, and enjoy a cuppa and cake. It’s all free, but donations are gratefully received so that we can continue our community activities.
