Mayville Cambodia Fundraising Gig

Mayville Cambodia Fundraising Gig

In 2012 eight Mayville pupils and a member of staff from Mayville High School will travel to Cambodia to take part in a youth project in Cambodia in mid-July; they must raise £3500 each for the project, a total of £28,000. They have fundraised individually and as a group. The programme gives the participating pupils the chance to live as part of a Khmer community and work on on-going projects to improve the standard of living for the villagers. Current projects involve supporting an orphanage, construction, teaching and sustainable farming initiatives. Camp Cambodia also has a strong cultural and historical element, with trips to ancient temples, the killing fields and Phnom Penh and Siem Reap.

As part of the fundraising the pupils are putting on a live music event at The Wedgewood Rooms on Wednesday 11th April where all profits raised from this charity gig will go towards this project. The artists performing will be:

FRANKO
FRANKO are a young, alt-rock band from South London UK. Their blistering live style is matched by their unique, savvy songwriting and sharp looks. Having already made their mark, the 4 piece has achieved plenty – playing for London’s City Showcase, touring in Thailand (including the inaugural Silverlake Festival in January 2012, with Incubus), taking their live show to New York City and supporting acts such as Elliot Minor, Room 94 and Dave Giles on UK national tours.

SUMMERS
SUMMERS are bridging the gap between the iconic stadium rock legends of old and the current new wave of music, taking a 1980’s born genre and firmly stamping their own sound all over it. With an exciting stage show and adrenaline fuelled melodic rock songs, SUMMERS – the charismatic new British bad boys of rock are raising temperatures across the UK. Originating from the South Coast of England, SUMMERS always leave their audiences on a high with a head full of songs. Their melodies are intelligently crafted with twin guitar led riffs. The lyrics are catchy and memorable.

THE VISITORS
Born in a dark, basement studio in Portsmouth, The Visitors have come a long way since their early days of university house parties and intimate front room gigs. Having enjoyed a successful few years with their music being used by Sony Computer Entertainment during the launch campaign of the Playstation 3 and distributed on demos in stores in over 101 countries worldwide. The Visitors debut album Travelling was released in 2009, gaining critical acclaim. Meanwhile, the video for the band’s first single, Another Day made it to the top 100 on the Sony Vidzone chart in its first week alone, making the “2010 Ones to Watch” feature on the homepage of the Vidzone site. Now hot off the back of the release of their latest, brand new full length album “Daylight Breaking”, The Visitors are looking forward to build on the success and credibility of their debut album. After recently signing a deal with the US music licensing company Audiosocket, becoming part the company’s reputable artist roster, exciting times lie ahead and the band are looking forward to a busy and rewarding time promoting the new album!

The night is 14+ and if you want to be served alcohol you will need valid ID (passport or drivers licence).

Tickets will be on sale from March 9th and cost £5. Tickets will be available from the Wedgewood Rooms, Mayville office and on the door that night.
