Created Local – ALLOTINABOX, Southsea, Eat Britain

It’s an idea that stems back 100’s of years! ‘Growing your own’. ALLOTINABOX is proudly local; everything from their own design to the sourcing of materials is within a bike ride away, and this means that it keeps people in jobs and reduces the carbon foodprint and are proud that for their first phase of launch has not sourced any of the packaging offshore, instead opting to use more local suppliers.

By doing so ALLOTINABOX know that the quality and understanding of their business is never compromised because they simply want to shave pennies on the unit costs or cheaper imports. They are also proud to say that they incur no air miles, and that has to be good for the environment!!

The entire team at ALLOTINABOX also run and work an allotment, they grow their own vegetables, meaning that they are also working the land, ploughing back in goodness to the local soil and practicing what they preach. They provide people of all ages and abilities with the knowledge and basics for growing their own food at home. Providing untreated, certified and organic seeds in a box delivered through the post. Whether a seasoned fanatic, or a complete beginner, they provides everything to get you started on your journey. The website is not fully operational just yet, but you can follow their progress over at Facebook and Twitter.

All the fantastic artwork and packaging design was carried out by the ever prolific local design house ilovedust.

Also…wondering what their thoughts might be on the possible government/councils ell off of allotments mentioned in the news the other day?

It took us three years on a waiting list to get our allotment plot. We’ve had it for three years now and demand is even higher now. I can’t believe with that demand that PCC could even consider the possibility of closing plots. I’d be furious!

This company looks rad! I might be urged to clear out the greenhouse….

Hey Huys, Thanks for all the comments, we try our hardest to ‘rad’ but simply want people to use what they own as much as possible. Growing is simple it just takes a bit of time and effort! Believe us we’ve seen it happen!

As for the news on allotments, its a terrible shame that the councils across the UK don’t see the value in allotments and what it brings to communities and families. If we had to get rid of our plot it would be heart breaking, so that’s why supporting allotinabox could help on so many levels.

Let’s ‘dig in’ and make a difference
