Seafront Cycle Route Passed By Council

As reported on The News website, the new cycle route plans were agreed by the council yesterday. There does seem to be some upset by the traders along route for the second phase, though.

As per previous online articles about cycling on The News website, expect interesting comments…

Whilst i think cycle paths are a good idea i get the impression this is just another example of ‘put enough pressure on someone and they will do what you want.’

Ive a few problems with this but my main one is this is further alienating cyclists from drivers. As you can see from the news website drivers and people who just like to have a whinge are having a big paddy about this.

Dont get me wrong im all for cycle paths as they are great for less confident cyclists and for getting around dangerous sections of road such as the bottom of the motorway, hilsea roundabout and the eastern road. I just feel you cant just slap a bit of white paint on the ground and say its a cycle path. If you want proof go look at the knocked down bridge outside portsmouth university. The supposed “bike lane” there is shit – it goes THROUGH 3 or 4 lamposts and past two blind corners that are very busy with pedestrians.
