Portsmouth Green Fair

Portsmouth will see its first ever Solar-powered Green Fair in the Guildhall Square on Saturday 5th September from 11-4.

A programme of music and film will be powered from a solar array and there will be plenty of other interest for all the family. You’ll be able to see an inter-dimensional Wizard with various eco machines and experiments, electric bikes, scooters and cars, vehicles running on waste gas/vegetable oil , demonstrations of low impact living including solar electric, solar hot water, straw bale and hemp construction, plus stalls selling organic, Fairtrade and local produce.

There’s a programme of music provided by the Coalition Festival, Art in the Park, Southampton Arts Cafe and other local bands plus juggling, fire-eating and a live link up to local radio. A series of talks and films will take place in Portsmouth Guildhall including a free showing of the acclaimed film The Age of Stupid at 2 p.m.

One of the organisers, Chris Kennett said: ‘We want people in Portsmouth to see some of the exciting ways in which they can change their lifestyles and cut carbon emissions. Visitors will be able to find out about green gardening, different foods, green motoring, energy saving, recycling and making the most of their bikes. They’ll also have the chance to meet up with the many local groups campaigning on green issues and see how they can get involved’.

The Fair will be opened by Dr Mae-wan Ho of the Institute of Science in Society

The event is being organised by the Portsmouth Climate Action Network together with Portsmouth City Council.
