On May 4th the Wedgewood Rooms welcome Glaswegian band Honeyblood to take to their stage. Shona McVicar (drums/vocals) and Stina Marie Claire Tweeddale met when they were both playing in separate bands on the same bill. After hitting it off the pair decided to form Honeyblood in 2012. The pair originally planned to increase their roster beyond the two of them but once they’d played a few gigs together they realised that they were happy with their sound. In September 2014 Shona left the band to pursue other endeavours and was replaced by Cat Myers.

The band cite the Breeders, PJ Harvey and the female punk sound as their key influences. The title of the band’s latest album, Babes Never Die, was inspired by a tattoo on Stina’s ribs. She describes “I guess you could call it a war cry; to have the faith to never let yourself be defeated.” The album has been receiving rave reviews from across the media, the Guardian, Drowned In Sound and NME all giving the album a solid 4/5.

“For this album, we went into the studio and said: ‘Total punk! As rock as we can get it,’” says Tweeddale

So if that sounds like your kind of thing then you can pick up tickets from the Wedgewood Rooms Box Office or online.
