Victorious Festival Preview #6 Jerry Williams by Liv Woodward

With just under two weeks left until Victorious Festival, the next artist on my must see list is local 19 year old singer songwriter Jerry Williams.

I stumbled across Jerry around two weeks ago when she played an acoustic set at Little Johnny Russell’s. I was at the bar when she started singing and I immediately turned around and was hypnotized by her voice (I also had to be nudged several times because I hadn’t paid for my drink). Her songs are extremely catchy and I found myself singing along (well attempting to anyway) and swaying along to her superb guitar skills. When I got home, I liked her page on Facebook and also YouTubed her and found some more brilliant songs. I suggest you all do the same!

‘Cold Beer’ is the song that caught my attention and the music video that runs alongside it is funny and very clever. I’m not giving anything anyway, so you’ll have to check it out yourself! ‘Cold Beer’ will be released on the 21st of August and luckily for us local people, Jerry Williams is hosting the EP release on Sunday the 23rd of August in Tiger at 5pm. Oh, and did I mention that it’s free?! So you have no excuse as to why you shouldn’t go.

Jerry has been performing for about two years and has been working her way around Portsmouth. It seems that most of her songs are influenced by nights out and dating boys, which I absolutely love, as she gets her opinions and stories out via her songs. Jerry Williams is inspired by the likes of Jake Bugg, Johnny Cash and Coldplay but this doesn’t make her the same or similar, it makes her an amazing independent singer/songwriter. Jerry even won the Best Solo Artist award for the Portsmouth Guide awards in 2014.

This girl deserves all the luck with her EP release and future events that she’ll be playing at! Jerry will be playing on the Saturday at Victorious Festival on Common Stage and also the Acoustic Stage. So if you miss her the first time, you can breath a sigh of relief because you can catch her later on in the day.

The festival is being held on Southsea Common on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th August. Tickets are available and you can pick one up via the website HERE, or in person from the Meat and Barrel on Palmerston Road.

You can stay up to date on all things Victorious via Facebook and Twitter @VictoriousFest, or by signing up to the mailing list HERE.
