Still Time to be Part of The Spice Island Art Trail 2014

Last year the first Spice Island Art Trail kicked off the many events that comprised Portsmouth Festivities 2013. The art trail saw many Old Portsmouth historic locations (such as the Round Tower, Cathedral, etc.) full of artists of all ages exhibiting their work. We worked with Art Space Portsmouth, Portsmouth Guildhall, Strong Island and aspex Gallery in the selection of the the best works shown which then all went in to the public exhibition at the Zodiac Gallery, Guildhall.

Entries for this year’s bigger and better Spice Island Art Trail, as part of Portsmouth Festivities 2014, are now being accepted. This event is going to become a real date for the diary and this is your chance to share your work with not only the people of Portsmouth but with many visitors from all over Hampshire and further afield. The Spice Island Art Trail 2014 takes place from 11am to 4pm on Sunday 22nd June 2014 and as before the event is free to members of the public. Every visitor is given a map with a route to follow including all of the venues which this year will include The Royal Naval Club & Royal Albert Yacht Club, Portsmouth Cathedral, The Square Tower and The Round Tower. Just like last year artists will have the chance to enter a competition to exhibit at the Zodiac Gallery, Portsmouth Guildhall, between Saturday 28 to Tuesday 8 July.

Portsmouth Festivities are welcoming submissions from both artists, professional and non-professional, and schools from across Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight. If you are a local artist living in Portsmouth or the Isle of Wight, and would like to take part in the Spice Island Art Trail 2014, please call 023 9268 1390 or visit portsmouthfestivities.co.uk for more information and an application form.

“There was a real buzz throughout the day last year and visitors enjoyed meeting the artists and seeing the vast array of art work on display. This year’s event promises to be bigger and better, with a wider range of schools involved and new venues added to the trail. We are really excited!” – Alison Dyer, Head of Art from The Portsmouth Grammar School

Deadline for submissions for the Spice Island Art Trail is Friday 14th March 2014.
