Aspex Gallery are opening up for applications from artists for their upcoming Rotate Response project/exhibition. The gallery is offering four artists (living within a one-hour journey of the gallery) the opportunity to use their main exhibition space as a studio for the duration of the project, in which they will exhibit existing pieces and make new work between 24 February – 27 April 2014. Artworks by the four selected artists will begin Rotate Response and these artists will spend time working in the gallery producing response pieces to one another’s work. Once the first response piece is complete the artists will rotate and respond to the next and so on until each of the artists has produced a reaction to each of the original exhibits. By design this project and exhibition will explore how people creatively react to another artist’s artwork, forming a four way chain of passive collaborations.

Each artist will receive a £1000 fee, including production costs. The selected artists will each be required to spend a minimum of 1 day each week (Wednesday – Sunday) working in the gallery and will have 3 weeks to produce each response piece.

How to apply:

Submissions are welcome from emerging artists and students in their final year of study who live, work and/or study within an hour’s journey time of the gallery. Artists interested in being involved in this project should send up to 5 images (jpegs) of their work, together with an artist’s statement and CV along with an indication of their availability between 24 February and 27 April 2014.
