Portsmouth is soon to receive it’s newest and most exciting new watering hole / cultural landmark in the form of The Kraken Wakes. Brought to you in a collaboration between local institution Lewis Darvill of Sumo fame and the 580 group responsible for Field Day Festival and Adventures In The Beetrootfield events.
Taking over the old Registry site, 580’s objective is to pool existing local talents and traditions, with the best up and coming new bands / djs / promoters (curated by Lewis Darvill) to deliver a vibrant melting pot of cultural activity – the kind of arts hub that Portsmouth, and the South has long been overdue. The venue has benefitted from a heft investment in the form of a full refurb / redecoration, new lighting, a legendary Funktion 1 sound system (prized as the Rolls Royce of club sound) as well as a late license til 3am on Friday and Saturday nights and midnight throughout the rest of the week, meaning the partying can carry on til the early hours.
The opening night will see Scratch Perverts, one of the biggest if not THE biggest dj collectives in the world with consecutive World DMC championships head up the proceedings. Scratch Perverts promise to set a precedent when it comes to at Kraken Wakes, make sure you do not miss this! Big things for sure.
Up and coming nights & acts include Late of the Pier (DJ Set), Computer Club (settle your Mario Cart wars here), Hat Parties, SUMO, Pub Quiz, KLAXONS (DJ Set) and much, much more besides. Take a stroll off the straza and hit up The Kraken Wakes.
