With music venues across the country laying silent and empty over the last 15 months there is a real thirst for live music, as people seem to be keen to make up for lost time.

Answering the call is Calamity Cratediggers and Missing Events who are launching a new forward thinking alternative live music/club night every Thursday in the heart of Southsea at The Loft at the Kings on Albert Road from the 9th September.

Each month will bring a Neu Wave of artists offering a variety of new and upcoming talent and provide an opportunity to explore a range of genres within the alternative sphere.

‘Langkamer’ from Bristol will be headlining the opening night with their own brand of West Country rock and supported by local band ‘Making Eyes’ as well as other acts still to be announced.

The rest of ‘First Wave’ for the month includes Projector, Deadletter and Opus Kink, new artists such as No Deal Disco and Sabres as well as local favourites Web and Sienas. Each night will also feature local DJs (including UnMade Radio, Calamity Cratediggers and Missing) to help bring together the local community and creative scene.

The purpose of Neu Waves is to celebrate not just emerging artists but also local talent, and as such are collaborating with local Universities and colleges to provide opportunities for students of photography, music engineering, graphic design and other creative fields to build their experience within the industry by working on live projects.

With their new weekly live music club night Neu Waves aims to re-affirm Portsmouth as the touring destination for alternative acts “on the way up”.

Tickets for the launch event which starts at 20:00hrs on the 9th September are now available on SKIDDLE but if you sign up for their mailing list you can get yourself free entry for the launch night and be one of the first to experience the new music scene on the Island.

Calamity Cratediggers are a South Coast collective which comprises of all vinyl DJs group who came together in Portsmouth. Live gig promoters and music fanatics with eclectic tastes they bring energy and a fresh sound to every show.

Neu Waves runs every Thursday from the 9th Sep until the 17th December at 8pm until midnight at The Loft at The Kings 39 Albert Road, Portsmouth.
