Camp Bestival, Josie and Rob Da Bank’s annual family focused festival returns to Lulworth Castle estate, Dorset this month. The four day event – running from July 25th-28th – has been a staple in the UK festival scene for a number of years now and is targeted primarily at families with small children.
There are of course a multitude of musical acts – this year sees disco funk legend Nile Rodgers headline with his band Chic alongside an eclectic range of musical artists from Ash to Goldie to The Vengaboys(!) – but you’ll also find comedy and literary stages as well as a whole host of children’s telly favourites (yes, Mr Tumble is in the house) alongside stages and areas focused on science, well-being and activities which kids and their parents will enjoy.
Being primarily family focused is truly unique in the major British festival circuit with and this year’s event has a dedicated Parenting Programme curated by Josie & Rob da Bank themselves (parents to four boys), which aims to offer everything from advice on single parenting, challenging your views on ‘crafting with the kids’, talks and podcasts on maintaining your relationship after children, to head-to-head DJ sets from the hottest parent couples on Instagram.
As is the case every year the Saturday is all about dressing up. This year’s theme is Heroes vs Superheroes which should allow ample opportunity for interpretation – expect to see every conceivable related costume from Bowie to Wonder Woman, Spiderman to an NHS nurse.
Perfect for families especially those with younger children – I for one cannot wait to see my daughter’s face when she spies the World’s biggest bouncy castle – this summer’s Camp Bestival looks like offering some top tunes, fun activities and above all, perfect family memories.
