This Friday evening sees the preview opening of Aspex Gallery‘s latest exhibition in the main space, ‘Waldeinsamkeit’ by Malene Hartmann Rasmussen, a ‘mash up wonderland’ solo show from the CRAFT EMERGENCY 2014 winner. Malene merges applied art, design and fine art to create ceramic sculpture, installation and furniture designs, incorporating digitally printed fabrics and wallpaper based upon photographic interpretations of hand-modelled ceramics. Utilising traditional craft skills, technology, tactility and texture to achieve a trompe l’oeil effect in a collection of multi-dimensional works, Malene has created a stunning, absorbing and uncanny experience.
Malene graduated in 2011 from the Royal College of Art with an MA Ceramics & Glass. In 2015 she was selected as one of five artists to be commissioned by the Jerwood Makers Open to produce work for a national touring exhibition.
The preview evening begins at Aspex on Friday 1st April, from 6pm to 8pm. You can register your attendance on the Facebook event HERE. The exhibition runs until the 19th June and is free entry. To find out more visit the Aspex Gallery website:
