On Saturday 1st November Beats & Swing are taking over The Cellars at Eastney for the evening. Headlining will be Harry Yeff better known by his stage name Reeps One. The 24 year old is an award winning beatboxer is only the second beatboxer along with Beardyman to win the Vauxhall UK Beatbox Championships twice running (2009 & 2010).
Science has even proved Reeps One to be an expert beat boxer. Dr Carolyn McGettigan, a neuroscientist at University College London, compared MRI scans of Reeps One and a novice while beat boxing. Results showed a greater focus and heavy use of his cerebellum by Reeps One, while the novice used several other areas across the brain. This suggests the novice’s lack of expertise as they need to think about and plan each sound, while Reeps One can perform automatically from all his years of training. The sound sequences are already embedded in Reeps brain.
Reeps One has supported acts such as Benga, The Prodigy, Roni Size, De La Soul, The Scratch Perverts and Foreign Beggars. As well as playing Glastonbury Music Festival three years in a row, and most recently performed at the Reading and Leeds 2013 Festivals, on the Alternative Stage.
I fully expect this to be a sell out prior to the event, so don’t wait wait around. Get your hands on some tickets via the Cellars HERE.
