Blissfields 2014 Preview #5 | New Desert Blues

For New Desert Blues this will be their Blissfields debut. The bands noire-infused, harmony-laden sounds can be found opening the Hustle Den on the Friday. The crowd will be in for a treat as the set will feature tracks from the ‘Devils Rope EP’ as well as new tracks from their debut album which the band are currently working on.

As well as spending large parts of the summer rehearsing and recording the new album, they are also playing at T in the Park and Festibelly, then heading to Germany to play a show in Berlin and the Rocken am Brocken Festival. Along with airplay from the BBC’s Zane Lowe and Huw Stephens, the band seem to be doing a great job of getting out there, gaining exposure and building a large following.

In keeping with the ‘Walk on the Wild Side’ theme I asked them if the band were an animal which would it be and why? They came back and described how they would be a collared lizard (Crotaphytus collars), “they have these red and black stripes around their necks just like the beads Jim Morrison would wear, we all know he was The Lizard King”.

After a listening to the ‘Devils Rope EP’ on their SoundCloud, I’m a fan. With tracks like ‘Milk and Honey’ I would pay them the compliment that they remind me of two of my favourite bands, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and the Kills.

I encourage you to take the time to check them out on iTunes, they have ‘Devils Rope’ and the ‘Adam/Zachary’ EP’s available for download at 79p per track. You can also stay up to date on all things New Desert Blues via their Facebook, Twitter @newdesertblues and Instagram @newdesertblues accounts.
