Portsmouth born Jeff Powell is part of the small electronic label State of the Art Records. They have recently signed the amazing Norwegian Grammy Award winner Karin Park. At the beginning of the month Karin released Highwire Poetry, the ten track album includes five tracks written with Portsmouth locals Barry Barnett and Simon Neale.
Karin has featured on Radio One shows presented by Annie Mac and Nick Grimshaw. She has recently played the Great Escape Festival and supported SBTRKT, AZARI and 111 on tour. Not to mention she recently performed an intimate show in Southsea’s own Pie & Vinyl store. She has also received fantastic support from BBC’s Jo Whiley.
If you are a fan of Scandinavian music such as The Knife, Bjork, Lykke Li, Fever Ray, Niki and the Dove and Mew then I’m confident you’ll enjoy what Karin has to offer. Christoffer Berg from The Knife/Fever Ray even produced one of the tracks on Highwire Poetry. You can download Karin on iTunes and Amazon.
Karin has recently been featured in on-line fashion site Net-A Porter as one of the ‘Females Changing the Face of Music’
Karin will be returning to Portsmouth in the autumn but if you cannot wait until then you can stay up to date with Karin by following her on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and MySpace.
The video for ‘Restless’ was shot in Karin’s home town of Djura, Sweden.
