To expand on what Tristan posted yesterday about thieves targeting bikes in Portsmouth. Our friends in blue offer a free service to members of the public called Cycle Marking.
Cycle marking involves the police entering the details of your bike into their cycle database, and marking it with a tamper-proof unique code that helps us identify it in the future. It is not uncommon for bikes to be left after the offender has finished with them. Security marking makes it a lot easier for police to reunite you with your bike.
You can get your bicycle security marked through the police, or at either Velocity Bikes or Cycle World for only £2.99. Both of these businesses are Hampshire Constabulary accredited cycle marking centres.
The next cycle marking session will be held at the Asda Bridge Centre on Sat 24th Sept between 8am-5pm. For more information and bike safety tips visit the Portsmouth section of the Hampshire Constabulary website.
