A VARIETY OF DIFFERENT WORKSHOPS AVAILABLE AT THIS GREAT GOSPORT GALLERY

Yellow Edge Gallery in Gosport has been specialising in contemporary and modern art for a number of years with many different excellent exhibitions under their creative belt. The gallery is run by and for artists, exhibiting the work of both established and new artists – providing opportunity to those who are young, a student, disabled or emerging. Monday 21st March
Calligraphy – Beginners Brush Lettering
10.30 – 1.00pm with Bridgette Stocks of Lettering by the Sea, £42 per person

The workshop is an opportunity to learn a new skill to wow your friends and family. Your beautiful lettering can be used on gifts and cards or even to enhance your own artwork. This workshop is suitable for beginners and Bridgette will support you throughout the session to ensure you leave with a set of skills you can use to continue your practice at home. Enjoy a relaxing and mindful experience taking you away from the stress of your normal life. You will think of nothing more than the strokes you are making on the page.

Bridgette Stocks has a lifelong fascination with calligraphy and an ever-increasing collection of books and equipment collected over many years. Bridgette studied Calligraphy at Sunderland University which was supported by the Prince’s Trust.  She also studied at Kensington Palace under the watchful eye of many of the UK’s renowned calligraphers such as Ewan Clayton, Manny Ling, Cheryl Avery, Sally Mae Joseph, Veiko Kespersaks and Sharon Shaw.

Tuesday 22nd March
Perfect Imperfect Collage
1.30 – 4.30pm with Carrie Swinburne, £50 per person – SOLD OUT

A relaxed workshop aimed at beginners.  Carrie will guide you through the basic steps to create your own unique canvas. The subject guide will be floral and you’ll learn to be inspired and guided by the shapes in the collage.  Carrie will introduce you to collage papers, acrylics, pens, stencils and different mediums, all topped off with a bit of magic.  You will be helped as much as you like, and remember there are no mistakes in this class, as collage is very forgiving.

Carrie is mainly a self-taught artist who works in an intuitive way with collage, acrylic paints and mediums to form unique pictures on wood, canvas and paper. She often works on repurposed photographic canvas which gives a solid base, laying down layers of papers and fabrics from a variety of sources including those Carrie creates herself. Carrie is based at Fire Monkey Arts in Hotwalls, Old Portsmouth.

Wednesday 23rd March
Acrylic Flower Meadow Workshop
10.00 – 12.30am with Becks Porter, £40 per person

We will use paint brushes, palette knives, card, cotton buds and fingers to paint this beautiful flower meadow using simple techniques and step by step instructions.

Becks is an artist living and working in Hampshire. She studied art in Shrewsbury and Cardiff, and has taught art to children and adults for 26 years. Thursday 24th March
Wood Block Printing on Fabric
1.30- 4.30 pmwith Chris Robson, £40 per person SOLD OUT

Learn the art of Indian block printing, mixing fabric paint, experimenting on paper and then have fun printing a tea towel or canvas bag.

There will be a good range of blocks to choose from; fruit and vegetables, bees and chickens, seed heads and trees, ethnic and geometric shapes.  There will be extra fabric and card blanks available to purchase if time allows.

Thursday 24th March
Lino Carving
6.00 – 9 .00 pmwith Georgia de Buriatte, £45 per person

You will learn all you need to make a lino print, no matter what artistic skill level you currently have! The workshop will start will some basic mark making, to get you used to the feel of using the tools and lino surface. We will then move on to small circular lino stamps carving and printing whatever you like! Don’t worry if you aren’t sure, there will be plenty of books and real-life lino examples for inspiration, from Georgia’s personal collection.

Finally, you will get the opportunity to carve and print an A6 lino block, in single, multi, and gradient colours.

Perfect for printing cards, t-shirts, bags, general artwork, and much more. Materials including paper and cards will be supplied but do feel free to bring anything you’d like to print on!

Georgia is an independent artist who has been making, exhibiting and teaching for several years after gaining a First Class Honours degree from Winchester School of Art. Georgia now specialises in printmaking and bookbinding, and exhibits all over the South of England.

Friday 25th March
Painting Seascapes with wet felt techniques
10 am – 1.00 pmwith Chris Jenkins, £40 per person – SOLD OUT

Learn how to layer wool tops with a range of other fibres and use wet-felting techniques to create a beautiful seascape. A frame and mount will be provided so that, once dry, your picture will be ready to mount and hang.

Friday 25th March
Still Life in Pencil or Watercolour
3.00 – 5-00pm with Rich Oakes, £30 per person

At the workshop you will have a choice of two Still Life’s to either draw in pencil, coloured-pencil or paint in watercolour. You will learn how to take a more relaxed approach to your art using natural fluidity of line, form and colour and create pictures that are lively, colourful, fluid and different.

I will be drawing and painting as well as being on hand for tips. All materials are provided, but please bring any if you have a favourite brush(es) etc. all ages and abilities welcome.

Rich is a Gosport based artist who uses mainly acrylics, watercolours, pen and ink. His work is based on observing my immediate world, people, places and objects that are around him.

Yoga

Leanne Gates is the founder of Tulsi Yoga.  She is a fully qualified breathwork coach and yoga teacher (accredited by the IYN Independent Yoga Network) with a daily discipline in The Living Yoga Method, founded by Steve Harrison, a complete toolkit for self transformation. The Living Yoga Method is a systematic approach to the ancient wisdom of Hatha Yoga with up-to-date science using practical techniques that, absolutely, anyone can adopt, you do not need to be flexible just open and willing to learn.

Sunday 27th March
Saddle Bound Book Making
10:00 – 1.00 pm with Georgia de Buriatte, £35 per person

During this session, we will be exploring the craft of Hard Cover Bookbinding. Taking a look into the history of artists books themselves, and the ways in which creatives might use books other than as traditional sketchbooks, this session is perfect for kickstarting your creative practice, or digging into something new!

You will learn the basic terms and techniques of hardcover bookbinding, ensuring it is something you can continue after if interested!  We will focus on making a Hard Cover Saddle Bound Book, which can be used for sketch-booking, gifting, or even a very fancy shopping list.

All materials and tools including papers will be supplied. However please do feel free to bring along some papers to include if you have some. In fact, this is encouraged as it makes it more tailored to you! When covering our books we will have plain coloured paper, but things like wrapping paper, fabric, maps, etc can be brought along for that extra touch if you’d like!
