The News Guide Awards 2012 – Vote for Strong Island!

The News recently announced the nominees for The News Guide Awards 2012 and despite some glaring omissions* we are happy to say that the My Dog Sighs film ‘A Can is Born’ made by Strong Island Media about the making of one of the local artist’s famous Canman is nominated for the Best Film (section G), which if you missed it earlier this year can be watched below. The film has now had over 26,000 views and been seen across the World.

If you have a minute to spare we would really appreciate a vote in that category and, if you like, would love a vote for PRIMARY as best exhibition (you have to select the Your Nomination option). Sadly neither of our exhibitions have even been nominated in the last two years (The Strong Island Exhibition at The Round Tower in 2011 and PRIMARY this year – watch the film about it below too) but a nominated vote would be great.

You can vote for the Guide Awards 2012 HERE and do not need to register. A huge thank you in advance! If you could tweet this and pop it on Facebook too we would really appreciate it too.

* Anything/Anyone you think that should have been on there that have been neglected? The Belle Isle? In Rust We Trust exhibition? Heroes exhibition? Let us know with a comment.

Every year the shortlist for pubs/restaurants seems to stretch to the furthest corners of The News readership catchment area however i’m sure it’s not to boost sales. A couple of years ago there wasn’t a single nomination from Portsea Island in that category.

Great to see King Street Tavern in the mix again and I find the Garage Lounge a fantastic venue and a brilliant addition to Albert Road however being unlicensed for alcohol it’s strange it falls in the ‘Pub/Restaurant/Wine Bar’ category.

Props to Paul and MyDog for the nomination and good luck to everyone else in their respective categories.

Also, no ‘Best Event’ category this year?

I would appreciate your votes for ‘a can is born’ for best film. paul did a stunning job and a massive part of the canman success has been due to the beautifully shot narrative he put together.

I Would also highly recommend you add a nominated vote for best exhibition for either In rust we trust or Primary. Nominated votes probably won’t make us win but they’ll at least keep the News aware of the work that is going on and not being recognised.

Thanks for saying ‘Heroes’ deserves to be nominated! I suggested ‘In Rust We Trust’ because it was awesome and beautiful. Also vote cast for ‘A Can is Born’.
